The last 6 months

Posted by Snowarriors on June 8, 2014 at 8:55 AM Comments comments (1)

Oh my, where have the last 6 months gone.   From the last post, Nina gave birth to her beautiful babies.  Splinter, Ember and Twiggy live here with us.  Hopefully soon they will have their first outing in harness, but just waiting on temperatures and humidity to cool down.

In late December and early January we lost brother and sister Fizz and Jo within one week of each other.  It was heart breaking and not a day goes by when we do not think about them.

In March, I took Willow to Crufts and she was placed.  We are over the moon and thankful to her breeder Jim Bryde for allowing us to own such a beautiful girl.  Not bad really considering years ago I choose not to show her, but she has matured beautifully.  Heres to a couple more shows over the summer.

Now is a quite time for us, and we look forward to when we can get back out training the dogs.   Until then keep checking back for more news.

Two weeks ago Nina has given birth to 3 beautiful puppies   It wasn't an easy time on this occassion.

Nina had given birth to 6 puppies, but unfortunately 3 did not make it :(.  Its been a very difficult and sad time.

We haven`t been out training for sometime, and hope to get the teams out very soon.

will add photos here in due course.

Exciting times ahead

After much careful thought and consideration we have decided to bred both Nina and Willow 2013/2014.

Nina will be bred to Buddy, owned by Sue Blake & Graham Good (Rykalov).  Buddy is a hard worker, great in lead, and has a lovely natured temperment.  Buddy has run on Grahams winning 6, 4 and 2 dog.

Nina is a fantastic lead dog, which came from her father Frosty (Brushbows Maroznay), and the great pedigree behind her.  She has help teach younger dogs lead, including passing wildlife whilst out on the trail. She is very laid back, and has been shown in the ring with occasional placings.

Willow will be bred to Hex, owned by Martin & Debbie Owen.  Hex has been running on Martin Owens winning 4 dog team.  Hex is the father of our previous pups, and we are thrilled with what Rogue & Hex produced.   Hex is hard working, runs in lead and has a very well natured tempermant.

Willow is great in lead and has fantastic drive, always wanting to run.  She too has learnt the art of passing wildlife and can be seen on a video on this site passing another team head on.

We are very hopefully both litters will produce great hard working dogs.  It will be a busy time for us during 2013/2014, but are looking forward to the next generations.  Keep checking back for more news.

Great Night Rally

Posted by Snowarriors on February 10, 2013 at 2:10 PM Comments comments (0)

This weekend we attended Rondy by Night organised by ABSA.

What a great night, love this trail.

Both Rogers 6 and my 3 dog ran well.  Dogs really enjoy this trail.

However, Rogers team did have a few turn issues, so Queenie will be joining my team to learn from Auntie Nina - who is a fantastic lead dog.

Queenie is a young girl, and only started training at a year old (November 2012) She is learning her turns but just needs that added reassurance from Nina who is confident lead dog.

Willow will return to the 6 dog team, and join Rogue in lead. Watch this space.

Looking forward to training over the next few weekends before the last race for us in March.

Update 4th February 2012

Posted by Snowarriors on February 4, 2013 at 6:45 PM Comments comments (0)

Well, it seems a little while since I last posted on here.

Three weeks ago Roger and I attended our first race since March 2011.   This was Iain Hutchinson Memorial rally held in the Forest of Dean under the ABSA organisation. This was a night rally followed by a morning rally.

Roger ran 6 and had a few issues with turns on the Saturday night, but his Sunday run was much better.

I ran in 4, and borrowed Scarlet from Sue & Graham (Rykalov).  What a great four dog this was.  They ran really well, and had one issue with a turn, but other than that they were great.

Considering this course was 4.5 miles, and our teams have only been covering 3 or just over they did really well.

As we aren't doing many races this season, its all about experience for the pups currently running on Rogers team (but this will change next season :D ).

It was great for us to get back out, and go to a different venue.  So looking forward to 2013/2014 season.

Training over the last few weekends have been interesting, with a bit of snow etc.  All part of the fun.

Nothing can beat being out with the dogs, enjoying what they do best.

Double training weekend

Posted by Snowarriors on December 9, 2012 at 12:10 PM Comments comments (0)

Well, this is the first time in a very long time, we trained on a Saturday and Sunday.

Have to say it was very interesting and did not go without any issues.

Saturday - Ran 2 threes and 1 four.  The two threes just seemed to be the wrong combination, so will be putting them back as they were.

Changing trails each time is quite interesting to see if the girls know their turns or are just taking them as they know the trail.  Well it appears due to lack of training for the past couple of years, they just need to gain their confidence on turns again.

Sunday - wow, this was an exciting sessions.   Ran 5 on my four wheeler, and boy was that an experience.   Really enjoyed it.  Girls and Thor were tired as this was the first time we had ran a double weekend, but they did good.  Flo was having a bit a mo with wanting to play in lead, so we moved Willow up, and the team did great.

Also ran my fab four - quite concerned how this was going to go as Mishka is in season, so ran her up front with Nina, and Spud and Misty in wheel.   Start wasn't particularlly great, but once they got over the first hill they were brilliant.

Need to start upping training as we are doing are first race in January :)

November 18th 2012 - Training

Posted by Snowarriors on November 18, 2012 at 11:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Wow, I know I seem to say this every training session but yet again fantastic runs.

I finally picked up the courage to run four dogs on a 3 wheeled rig (usually run a four wheeler with that number of dogs).  But not once twice :D.

My first team consisted of - Willow and Flo in lead, Doyle and Queenie in wheel. Set of and only a few moment on the trail I see another team coming towards us.  Fantastic time with head on training.  Willow and Flo did quickly give kisses to the other team, but were soon on their way.  After that they just ran like a dream.  This was video and should appear in the video section of this website.  (I hope)

My second team - a two dog with Rogue and Thor - never again!  Thor decided he would run and play and let Mum (rogue) and me do all the work!.  So back to the drawing board.

My last team - Nina and Misty in lead, with Mishka and Spud in wheel.  Boy did I have some fun with this team.  Went down trails I hadn't in years, sharpe turns, and one dip i forgot about until i hit it at the last minute.  Had to take this team nice and steady as Mishka isn't so keen on fast down hills, but they all ran really well. (Spud was loaned from the Rykalov Kennels.

Well - heres to next weekend,  Think I'll do three threes. :)

Training has begun

Well, I finally thought I best start updated the blog knowing this is our most active time of year. :).

Firstly a couple of weeks ago the puppies were 1.  Happy birthday puppies.

So back to training.................

Training has been going very well over the past few weeks, the pups are doing brilliantly and have a very enthusiastic attitude to working.

Today I ran 3 threes - first team consisted of Nina & Misty in Lead with Mishka in Wheel - Nina decided she was a girl who was going to have fun of her own, and caused a bit of a tangle where I needed to snub up and sort out the harnesses and lines.  However it was still a good run and the girls had fun :).

Second team to go - Rogue & Queenie in lead, with Thor in Wheel - Great run with this team - Roger wasn't expecting me back so soon, boy did they fly.

Last team to go - Willow (single lead), Flo and Doyle in wheel - another great run, Doyle was a litle unsure of one slight left turn, but with some reassurance he was fine.

The blogs may seem repetative over the next few weeks, but it will be great for me to look back over my comments and see who is doing what and where in which team.

We hope to get to some rallies in 2013, and I can't wait. :D

Keep looking back for more updates.

Updated Website

Finally decided that I had best update the website, with the pups details on the "Our dogs" page.

Also added all of Queenies Show results.  She is doing great in the show ring.

We haven't forgotten about the boys.  All three pups will be worked in harness once the cooler weather gets here. - roll on colder weather.

The other Snowarriors kids are taking things easy.

Keep checking back for updates.

Finally, after a long break we finally took the dogs for a training sessions, and they all had a great time.

Pups had their first road trip, no mishaps which was great.

Keep watching this space for training up dates.
